Dr. K. Prakash is a GI Surgeon with keen interest in Laparoscopic Surgeries & Hepatobiliary diseases and surgery. He is currently the Senior Consultant GI Surgeon at Aster Medcity, Kochi. Armed with more than a decade of professional experience and an uncanny ability to perform laparoscopic surgery with ease, he has earned a prestigious position among the medical fraternity in India.. The track record of the Unit is over 7000 successful laparoscopic surgeries, probably the highest in Kerala. This unit has performed maximum number of laparoscopic colonic & rectal resection for benign lesions and for colon and rectal cancer in the state.

Posts held after primary medical qualifications:

  • Joined three-year residency course for MS in General Surgery at Medical College, Baroda affiliated to Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda on 30.061992 to 29.06.95. Worked as senior resident for 6 months after completing MS degree at Department of Surgery, University of Baroda.
  • Joined the MCh course in Surgical Gastroenterology at Medical College, Trivandrum, affiliated to the University of Kerala and completed by July 1998.
  • After obtaining MCh degree, I joined PVS Memorial Hospital, Kochi, Kerala, India as a consultant since July 1998. This busy gastroenterology unit receives patients from many parts of the country, for hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases. It provides most advanced and state-of-the-art facilities on open surgical, laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. Worked until Nov 2001 at PVS Memorial Hospital. During this period I have performed independently and under supervision all complex Gastrointestinal and heptobiliary surgeries.
  • Resident for the diploma AFSA, in the Department of visceral surgery, Hopital Beaujon, Paris from November 2002 to November 2003. I was selected for this scholarship by College de Medecin, University of Paris based on my academic merits from applicants world-wide. This centre is a tertiary referral centre for all complex liver and pancreatic surgeries and a busy transplant centre. This one-year training in surgery of liver and liver transplantation, allowed me to trained myself in complex Hepatobiliary surgeries and Liver Transplantation and was involved in scientific research as well. During the entire one year I was the resident – on call for the transplant programme and had opportunity to get hands-on experience in liver transplant surgery.
  • Currently working as Chief of Gastrointestinal surgery in PVS Memorial Hospital. This busy Gastrointestinal surgery units are tertiary-level reference centres for complex gastrointestinal surgeries and perform all major Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. This unit has been practicing all major GI laparoscopic surgeries as well.
